Taiji Matsue: Landscape

Taiji Matsue: Landscape at Cohen Amador Gallery. "...By looking down from a raised position, Matsue evokes the impression of aerial photographs and creates a visual separation between the observer and the image. The sense of separation is simultaneously reinforced by the uniformly grey values which, in their differentiated harmony, endow the photographs with the monochrome tones of a landscape viewed from a great distance. In the case of urban landscapes, Matsue wipes out any definition of place and time even where urban planning and architecture appear to provide grounds for defining a particular location."
