Edgar Martins - The Dininishing Present: Dystopia And The Accidental Theorist

Edgar Martins - The Dininishing Present: Dystopia And The Accidental Theorist at Betty Cuningham Gallery in New York, NY. "...The two series are distinct both visually and in intent. Dystopia (c-type prints, 35 3/8 x 44 7/8 in., ed. of 5) was shot in the immediate aftermath of the forest fires that ravaged Portugal in 2005 and has strong political/ecological concerns. The Accidental Theorist (c-type prints, 26 x 32 5/8 in., ed. of 5), also shot in Portugal, takes place on the beach at night and poises on the edge of abstraction. The two series have in common a surreal quality perhaps generated by an almost complete absence of a human presence."

This artist's work truly sopke to me.
He is one of the most original, thought provoking and intriguing artists working with photography today.
I am eagerly awaiting his forthcoming show at MoMA.
